Farr Residence

This house was a traditional style home designed by a developer and built in the 1980s on a spectacular site with 270 degree views. The original house had a poor floor plan and was cheaply built. It needed a major facelift, and with the exception of the new windows and doors throughout the house, our work was limited to the interior of the building. We gutted the house, moved a few walls to improve the quality of the individual rooms as well as the flow of the plan. and upgraded the structure where necessary. With all new finishes, fixtures, cabinets and lighting the home is now worthy of its prominent location on the hill.

Main entry foyer. We changed the shape of the space from a developer-designed twist with an ugly winding stair to a squarish room with a switchback stair and classic details. An odd, sunken bar on the second floor and entry level closet were demolished to make room for this more spacious solution.

Powder Room near the entry foyer. It sits at what used to be an awkward joint between two wings of the house--where the angle changes. By moving a couple of walls and removing a poorly placed tub we made an elegant powder room for guests and family members to use.

The kitchen was large but dark inside. We built a significant light box on the roof to bring generous light to the center of the room but also to create a sense of place. The views from the room (to the left and behind the camera in this shot) are spectacular.
