Originally built in 1925, this charming one and a half story bungalow in Arlington's historic Maywood neighborhood gets a full renovation and rear addition for a new growing family of 5. In order to comply with the historic requirements, FitzHarris Designs designed the rear addition's massing and roof lines to complement the original structure. To maximize the useable space, the basement media room extends below the screen porch, and the master bathroom extends above it. Spray foam insulation, skylights for natural light at interior stairs, windows/french doors on all four sides of the great room, drive strips to reduce impervious surface, and stormwater planters to filter clean rainwater bring the home into the 21st century with modern updates and sustainable sensitivity.
