The Read Residence ‘For the Journey’ new home project was designed to meet DOE Net Zero Energy Ready and USGBC LEED for Homes Platinum certifications. In 2023, the project was awarded as one of three Outstanding Single Family Projects by the USGBC.

This home introduced, for the first time in Michigan, a pre-fabricated, frost protected shallow foundation system from Scandinavia called Warm- Form. It allowed the home to be built as a slab on grade on a site with an unusually high water table, created a passive solar energy storing thermal battery slab and provided an opportu- nity for in-floor radiant heat, addressing our client’s Raynaud’s syndrome.
