Lee Caroline - A world of Inspiration

Garden Studio

An artist (myself) needed a small space outside of the main house to paint in. Not only did this space have to have room for a large easel but also be a place to relax in. The brief was coastal, white and a little bit rustic.

The walls were lined with V groove board run horizontally to give it a coastal feel. Floors were initially painted white, however the plan is to lay an oak floor at a later date. Meanwhile a sisal rug keeps the rustic theme.

Ceilings are T&G and beamed and painted in Alabaster. Walls were painted in Sea Fog.

The building itself is under 10 square metres and is entered off of the existing deck from the house. The artist wanted a pitched roof but as per council regulations because it was entered at deck height it could not have the pitch because of the height, so we opted for a slightly sloping roof from front to back, hence the internal beams for interest.

A simple off white, linen chair is in one corner for relaxing in. The easel is set up at the other end and a rustic, feature console spans along the back wall which makes it look more like a living space when viewing from the adjacent house. The console also has two deep drawers for the artists materials. A rattan stool doubles as a seat or place for a book. A rustic French basket sits beneath the console and stores interior magazines. A little iron table rests the painters palette.

The small studio is 2.4 metres deep x 3.6 metres long. The building is light, bright and being totally separate from the main house it's often used as an escape when other family members are watching tv or listening to music in the house.
