The Garner Cottage was a major renovation and restoration of an 1894 shingle cottage. The existing house had been neglected for many years and had deteriorated to the point that it was considered a tear down by most people. The original structure was saved and restored with a large addition added to the side and rear of the house. The design goal was for the new additions to blend seamlessly with the original house and to save and restore as many of the original house elements as possible including siding and windows. Thoughtful Development earned the Falls Church City Village Preservation Excellence in Design Award for this project in 2009.
