GH House

The GH House, located in The Grove neighborhood of St. Louis, is a synthesis of old and new. The site consisted of three typically long and narrow city lots with the middle lot containing an abandoned turn of the century home. Rather than demolish this small house, UIC created a concept for an ambitious "addition".

The red brick of the existing house was contrasted with a dark brick in a stack bond for the new ground floor.

The existing home became an over-sized master suite and was joined by a parallel brick bar containing living spaces. Both were overlapped with a perpendicular second story containing two additional bedrooms and a home office loft. A sliding barn-style door gives privacy to the space.
