Grandview

One of the homeowners grew up in the area and desired a forever home to settle in to that honored the area vernacular and their memories of place. Wanted a house that was designed with two master suites, one upstairs and one on the main level. For now, the homeowners occupy the second floor master, with the other available as a suite on the main floor, to better accommodate family members as they might age. As homeowners age, they have flexibility of moving down to first floor themselves. The second floor operates on it’s own heating and cooling system, allowing them to close down the whole floor of the house if the time comes that they wish to move to first floor living. Two laundry rooms were created as well, to further aide this flexibility.

The core of the home was designed to look like an old stone farm house, with the wings constructed out of fiber cement siding, meant to resemble clapboard siding that would have been used on home additions in the area in the past. Garage mimics details of a barn with the inclusion of two cupolas. Large windows invite the outside in, and frame the picturesque view of rolling farmland. Doors lead to a large covered front porch that runs the length of the house. Natural stone veneer used, along with wood porch ceilings and bluestone porch floors.

Dual Master suites, one on first floor, one on second, allows for flexibility as homeowners grow with the house. Exterior built to resemble a house as if it had been on the property for many, many years. Cozy den with custom built-ins with library rail/ladder system and fireplace. Room is accessed through double barn doors on track, another nod to the area and the past life of the property. Wide plank oak floors run throughout first floor of home, adding warmth and character. Hidden pantry door in kitchen to the right of the oven, with a front that blends seamlessly with the cabinetry.
