Greenwich Condo

This Greenwich Village apartment renovation is a study in how to maximize a tiny space without adding square feet. CCS Architecture transformed the client's former studio apartment, creating a bedroom, an abundance of storage, and a casual, modern look within 500 square feet. A walk-in closet was removed and a micro-bedroom, housing a queen-sized bed with storage below
was inserted. The bedroom enclosure wall is a smooth white, partial-height wall with view ports, which act as positive visual elements when viewed from the rest of the apartment, and small views form within. The micro-bedroom, just for sleeping, has the requisite bed-side items; shelf and ledge for books, magazines, alarm clock, and reading light. The rectangular view-port at the foot end of the bed allows for small views from the bed to the windows thru the living space beyond. Storage is maximized under the bed and is accessed via deep drawers thru the wall from the entry.
The main space of the apartment, which the bedroom adjoins, is built-out and furnished for eating/working at a central table, living/relaxing at a central sofa, and storage/display at full-height wall cabinets. This room and casework is all white with selective mirrors to maximize its spaciousness and visual simplicity. The kitchen and bathroom were renovated in very small yet selective ways to increase their usefulness, and storage capacity; while windows were replaced and floors refinished. Overall, the project expresses its form through extreme function in limited space.
