This hand stacked stone wall serves as the threshold to the backyard living space of the home. Painstakingly hand built using traditional dry-stone laying techniques, the wall supports antique wooden doors reclaimed from an old house in China. Custom bronze bracketry were made to hang the doors, but unfortunately they began to squeak when the gates were opened. We offered to fix this "issue", but the client insisted that it be left that way! The stone itself was selected for its reddish grey color to compliment the hues in both the corten steel water feature and the natural stone steps leading to the gateway. Night lighting creates a dramatic effect, highlighting the pattern of the stone, texture of the wood and the ornamentation on the doors.
