This backyard is covered on all sides by large and marure Maples. They provide a great deal of shade, which is wonderful in the hot Louisville summer. However, it was impossible to grow grass. The homeownerrs decided to lay down turf instead of sod or reseeding each year. They softened the edges with evergreen shrubs and groundcover, and brought in some beautiful Dogwoods for spring color. Their putting green is fun for all ages and they attribute the improvement in their short game to late night putting challenges in their backyard!
