Hilltop Residence
If a man has the opportunity to design a “Man Kitchen”, how does he go about it? He first chooses bold appliances, such as a Wolf 36” range and a stainless steel Sub-Zero 36” refrigerator/freezer, and builds around them. He then chooses cabinetry which provides excellent storage while aesthetically making a statement with equally bold color and an integrated handle selection. Both the faucet and sink, rectilinear in design, continue the masculine theme. The original kitchen, small with outdated cabinetry and design, was not conducive to entertaining or circulation with the rest of the home. These problems were solved by taking out a wall and connecting the kitchen with the dining room, and by creating an extensive countertop area with a raised wood bar to encourage interaction with the family room, wet bar, and outdoor living space. To soften the aesthetic the homeowner elected to reuse his former bar stools which feature natural woven material. Given the opportunity, a man can reflect his true personality in a functional and stylish manner.
