Historical Victorian Village

Inspiration for this garden was derived from the Edwardian-style architecture of this 1879 house. For example, by modifying a sandstone keystone found on the property we created a spout where the water disappears into the walk, providing children and pets a place to play in summer while creating white noise to hide the sounds of a bustling city.
The patio was raised by constructing masonry limestone walls, providing a seamless transition from the kitchen to the outdoor space. Seatwalls flank the sides of the patio and pillars emphasize the entrance. A custom-made wrought iron railing allows parents to monitor children on the lawn. Circular steps leading to the carriage house allow for easy access to the lawn or garden. Limestone was inlaid into the bluestone on the top of the patio to further define these steps. A raised circular grass step on the side yard creates a unique side entrance to the patio and backyard.
A classic quadripartite garden provides formal boxwood hedges, defined by limestone walkways, filled with colorful annuals and perennials. Three large ‘Frans Fontaine' Hornbeams were installed to provide privacy from the neighbors. Boxwood, Hydrangeas and English Yew provide structure in the garden, while vines like clematis and climbing hydrangea soften the stone and fencing. Colorful perennials like lavender and purple coneflower provide long-lasting color during the summer.
