Holas Olas

Our second construction project with this homeowner, we really enjoyed building on our first experience to imagining a beautiful beach house for them in San Clemente, Ca. A complete shift from their traditional primary residence, this project emanates California Lifestyle. Originally a multiunit building, the structure was torn down to create a luxury duplex. With Spanish architecture and beautiful views of the Pacific Ocean, we imagined traditional Spanish moments with a fresh take on style. We wanted floors and cabinetry that looked natural and sun kissed as an ode to the seaside location. We also designed playful tile moments consistent with Spanish Colonial architecture yet done in a current palette with lots of texture and patterning. This theme continued throughout the design process with color and patterns becoming integral to every design selection. A design challenge was how to add interest to the main floor ceiling which was bound to architectural height restrictions yet was too vastly white and flat for our liking. We got busy creating ideas to visually break the large space by adding interesting beams in the central living space giving definition to the kitchen, living room and bar without minimizing height.
