This custom home elevator addition was designed to improve accessibility while preserving the original character of a coastal Outer Banks home. Built by Patton Contracting in collaboration with Atlantic Elevators, the project required thoughtful planning, structural precision, and refined finish work to ensure the addition felt intentional rather than added on.

From the exterior, the new elevator tower aligns seamlessly with the home’s existing rooflines, siding patterns, and proportions. Finished in crisp white vertical siding, it complements the original shingle exterior while clearly defining the new vertical circulation element without disrupting the overall aesthetic.

Inside the home, the elevator was carefully integrated to match existing trim profiles, flooring, and door styles. When open, the cab provides a clean, comfortable, and well-lit interior. When closed, the elevator blends discreetly into the surrounding space, preserving the natural flow and feel of the home.

What began as a functional accessibility upgrade ultimately became a cohesive architectural enhancement, demonstrating how aging-in-place solutions and thoughtful design can work together to create a home that is both practical and visually refined.
