HOUSE 1519
Presented with a unique site at the intersection of two neighborhoods the Owner and Architect recognized the opportunity that a 10’ drainage easement would afford for extra gardening space and separation from the adjacent house. A long derelict apartment building was removed, and HOUSE 1519 was designed as the third contemporary house along the block. Roughly half of the site at the ground level is left available for exterior spaces including a pool, outdoor kitchen, and edible garden.
The Architect also managed the construction process to ensure that details were followed, and the quality of the high-performance home was upheld. The exterior blends a fluid stucco volume with accents of brick and white ash treated wood. Inside, there is terrazzo finished concrete flooring throughout the open living spaces with a 3-story lightwell at the center. A pneumatic elevator was requested for the Owner’s aging father and to facilitate access to the 3rd floor Office and Terrace with custom wood benches and a view of the downtown skyline. Additional features include bespoke millwork, automotive finished handrails & front door, and sculptural raised cor-ten planter.
