In this bright and airy redesign, our goal was to transform a plain room into a stylish, yet relaxed, living area for a busy family of four. Keeping the needs of each family member in mind, we first reviewed how the space is utilized in order to best reconfigure the layout and create a warm, welcoming retreat. With an updated shiplap fireplace as the focal point, adding comfortable swivel chairs instantly created a more functional and versatile space worthy for both entertaining or relaxing. For some symmetry, organization, and extra storage space, we included unique accent cabinets which flank the fireplace and add visual interest. Creating portrait galleries above these pieces provides a graceful personal touch. We decided on a soft color palette so the room could become more light and inviting. To give the room richness in textiles and fabrics, we layered with a variety of textures including the rug, velvet chairs, and pillows while bringing in warmth and peace with natural elements such as greenery, wall vases, and artwork. The result is a perfectly balanced family oasis.
