Located in Coronado, California, the I Avenue Residence sits on a relatively small parcel just 4,900 square feet in size, measuring 35 feet in width by 140 feet in depth. The dimensions of the site presented an extremely difficult design challenge of creating a home with a comfortable, open, and bright feel not dominated by the long and narrow site dimensions. Through the integration of abundant windows, pocketing glass doors and indoor/outdoor spatial arrangements whenever possible, the design couples the openness of the outdoors with the interior rooms, resulting in a free, unrestrained sense of space. A two-story, stone-clad outdoor fireplace was integrated into the detached rear structure, becoming a unique focal feature when in the main home and rear yard area. The style of the home blends traditional “coastal” design with contemporary design, creating a unique aesthetic. The interior is a continuation of this hybrid design - featuring simple, clean contemporary details and finishes with a traditional touch.
