Set amongst the pine-covered hills of Ibiza, this project transformed a large but underused terrace into a series of beautifully connected outdoor living spaces designed for entertaining, relaxing and making the most of the island's spectacular views. We were commissioned to design the garden, develop the overall vision and coordinate both the construction and planting with a team of local contractors, ensuring every element came together seamlessly.

The existing terrace offered incredible panoramic views but lacked identity and purpose. Large areas of worn paving created a vast expanse of hard surface, while the garden offered little connection between the house and the surrounding landscape. Our ambition was to create a series of welcoming spaces that celebrated the Mediterranean setting while retaining the property's relaxed Ibizan character.

At the heart of the design is a generous covered outdoor kitchen and dining pavilion, creating a natural hub for entertaining throughout the year. The bespoke space incorporates a fully equipped outdoor kitchen, bar, integrated DJ booth and comfortable seating, allowing the owners to host everything from relaxed family lunches to large evening gatherings beneath the timber pergola.

The surrounding terraces were completely reimagined using natural stone paving, introducing new planting beds that soften the architecture and blur the transition between the built spaces and the surrounding landscape. Sculptural Mediterranean planting, including agaves, aloes, olives and drought-tolerant perennials, provides texture and colour throughout the seasons while remaining perfectly suited to Ibiza's climate.

A new flight of stone steps connects the main entertaining terrace with a lower relaxation area, where a cedar hot tub has been carefully positioned beneath mature trees to enjoy uninterrupted views across the valley. Existing specimen trees were retained wherever possible, while the introduction of a magnificent ancient olive tree provides an immediate sense of permanence, becoming a natural focal point within the garden.

As daylight fades, carefully integrated lighting transforms the garden into an atmospheric evening retreat. Mature trees are subtly illuminated, the entertaining spaces take on a warm Mediterranean glow and the landscape remains every bit as inviting after sunset as it does during the day.

The completed garden captures everything that makes outdoor living in Ibiza so special. It balances contemporary entertaining with the relaxed character of the island, creating a landscape that feels as though it has always belonged there while offering the owners an extraordinary place to spend time with family and friends.
