The existing house - a 3-story mansard-roofed Victorian with a 2-story wing at the back - was in serious disrepair, so the entire interior was gutted and collapsing roofs were re-framed. The clients, with 2 young children, wanted a more open, light-filled interior with a modern kitchen, modern bathrooms, and a new master bedroom suite. We preserved the original stairs/railings & fireplace surrounds, and matched existing trim work at the more formal rooms at the front of the house, while converting the back wing to the modern kitchen (downstairs) and master suite (upstairs), with new large windows. The result is a mix of modern and traditional, and the modern furnishings and artwork tie it all together.
