Martin Horn renovated this former fraternity house headquarters, built in 1922, into a private residence. We worked closely with the owner and architect to keep the historic qualities of the house while making it comfortable for modern living. Major challenges included removing a fireplace in the kitchen without removing its chimney from the roofline – a requirement to achieve historic designation; and updating mechanical, electrical and plumbing throughout the home. This project won the best example of preservation for the Association of the Preservation of VA Antiquites (APVA) in 2006.
