The largest challenge in designing this kitchen was how to keep the classic look of a 97 year old house with integrating the comforts of a modern chef’s kitchen.
With Karman’s classic Shaker door style and a linen finish, this challenge proved to be quite easy.
Solid white oak flooring in a natural finish, along with a solid wood countertop with a mahogany stain completed the project, and tied all aspects of the room together. A 48” stainless steel GE Monogram oven, and a 37 cubic foot side by side from Kenmore will make any chef happy in this kitchen.
Having this much stainless steel in a kitchen of this age made it difficult to keep with the classic feel of the house. By creating a custom built in for the refrigerator, the doors of the fridge melt into the colors of the kitchen as if it was from the original build. This built-in look was created by raising the side by side up on two custom 12” cabinets built by Karman leaving plenty of storage for linens. Wrapping the sides with fridge panels, and topping them off with two 24” cabinets gives the look and feel of a refrigerator that belongs in the house.
Another challenge of the kitchen was the 48” stainless steel gas range and double oven from GE. Enclosing the oven by double stacking two 9” cabinets (one 30” and one 36”) created a pocket that allowed for classic subway tile to be installed as a back and side splash. By encasing the oven like this, a pot filler was able to be mounted on the back wall adding an additional element of classic style and convenience.
A Viking range hood is hidden by the oak panel that has been stained to match the countertop. A shelf has been installed on the panel, and painted to match the linen color of the cabinets.
Ample workspace is provided to the wet wall by pulling the cabinets out into the room an additional 6” giving a full 36” deep countertop.
Two floating solid oak shelves, and classic stainless steel cup handles finish the kitchen.
