Kitchen Remodel
Being given the chance to work on a beautiful project is a wonderful opportunity in itself, but receiving the following letter of recommendation from the owner reminds us that we do so much more than design houses – we design HOMES.

There will come a time in the midst of your kitchen renovation, perhaps when you’re washing dishes in your bathroom sink, when you will ask yourself “Was this really worth it?” It is undoubtedly a big commitment of time and money. Working with Doug Lane allowed us to answer “Yes, it is worth it” before, during and after the project. He did this by engaging us in the process, dwelling on the details and smoothly transitioning to our builder.
First, Doug engaged us in the process. Throughout the months of planning the kitchen, we brought idea after idea to Doug. Some were useable, some were not (toilets don’t fit everywhere you want them). But Doug considered the pros and cons of each proposal, integrated the best parts, and gently informed us that others would not fit the space or budget. In the end we felt listened to and appreciated, while still being guided towards a great outcome.
Beyond our ideas, Doug dwelled on the details. There are countless innovative ideas in our kitchen that add to our everyday lives. From completely reconfiguring the traffic flow by moving a doorway, to considering how to account for electrical work behind a pocket door, nothing escaped Doug’s consideration. These are the little things that make a house feel like a home. One more specific example: counter depth refrigerators cost more money and offer less storage space. Doug realized that our refrigerator could be recessed into an existing wall. The result was a big cost savings with the sleek look of a counter-depth.
Finally, Doug smoothly transitioned to our builder. The detailed blueprints allowed us to have a competitive bidding process among 3 builders, who knew exactly what they would have to build. And as we moved into construction, there was no confusion about where walls or plumbing or electrical work would be placed. It saved us untold amounts of money in change orders–and untold days of washing dishes next to our shower.
It’s a cliche, but our kitchen is the heart of our home. And the creativity and detail focus that Doug brought to the process has improved it immensely. I would highly recommend working with Doug Lane on any kitchen renovation project.
