Kitchen Remodeling with Step Down

The design challenge was to remodel the kitchen while making it more functional and eliminating a bottleneck between the kitchen and the family room. The solution included enlarging the kitchen by moving the powder room and opening up the kitchen to the step down family room.
This elliptically shaped opening was added between the kitchen and the living room to provide views from the kitchen out through the large windows into the front yard the home. This was especially important so that the chef could see the arrival of guests. Photographer: Craig Cernek
