Kitchen renovation

A contemporary kitchen renovation in an early 1970's bungalow in an established neighbourhood of Calgary. The design features a limited palette of colours and materials, clean simple details and an efficient layout to keep the space bright and functional. Minimal changes to plumbing and electrical helped keep the project within budget.

Kitchen renovation
Small retro style kitchen table fits nicely in the space and balances the contemporary kitchen cabinets. The pass-through was enlarged from its previous size and fitted with a matching piece of white quartz, allows light and view from the adjacent dining room window.

Tempered glass backsplash with stand alone range vent is the main feature of the space. The custom stainless steel toe kick is a subtle way to separate the cabinets from the floor and blends nicely with the appliances and hardware.

An efficient, sensible layout helps the small space remain functional and easy to use. Instead of recessed pot lights, adjustable track lighting with LED bulbs and a new window ensure plenty of light. In fact, after roughing in and testing under-cabinet lighting we decided it was not necessary.
