Larkin Valley
This is the exterior of a remodel to a 70's vintage Geodesic dome overlooking Monterey bay. Geodesic Dome homes really incorporated designed obsolescense. They are difficult to sell, difficult to furnish and difficult to remodel, because of the inherent design. The client wanted to obscure as much as possible that fact that this was a dome and promote the beautiful environment and the view. The project included an outdoor patio enclosed with glass wall showcasing the ocean and mountain views. Concrete walls for privacy; an outdoor fireplace and water feature all designed with industrial chic that accentuated the outdoor living and directed attention away from the dome itself. The entrance to the patio and the home is through a colonnade constructed from galvanized drain pipes. Once inside, a sweeping stairway constructed from bent steel i-beams and glass treads leads to the master suite on the top floor.
