Lighting Design Revamp
This project spanned three separate rooms in our clients’ home: the living room, the dining room, and the library. Each room presented their own issues, and we were pleased to find solutions that provided the clients with better overall illumination, as well as providing adequate light for their art collection.
The existing recessed lighting in the living room was both the wrong size and placed in an inefficient location. The clients also had a piece of art that presented a unique challenge due to its curved and linear shape, and because it had a glossy finish that often created a glare. We were able to correct the issues in the recessed downlights as well as install new lights to provide the perfect ambiance for the clients to enjoy their art.
The dining room had built in cabinets that the clients wanted to use to display some glass/acrylic pieces they had recently picked up. By installing a new recessed fixture above the mantle and vertical strip lights in the cabinets, the whole room felt brighter, creating better visual balance against the fixture in the center of the room. Adding in new custom glass shelves ensured the art was really able to shine.
Finally, the library was fitted with an entirely custom set of strip lighting in each of the display niches. Before, because many of the niches were very narrow and linear, much of the space was dark and unusable. Simply putting a strip along the top of the shelving would only illuminate the top niches, and would leave the rest in the dark. By adding vertical strips to each cabinet we were able to ensure that each niche was equally well-lit, and helped to make the whole room feel brighter. The clients were pleased to find that the most narrow of the niches (located above the window and door) were now perfect for displaying their derby glasses, while before they had been left completely unused.
