Live-work Retreat is a collaboration with an artist to create a residence and studio in a remote area of the Methow Valley. The owner wanted an efficient, potentially "off-grid" building with tremendous day light and vertical space for creating his large installations. A sloping site was selected for its thermal benefits. The solution is a simple, tall structure stacking a "rolling loft" over the main level studio, with a basement sleeping area below.
