I designed this 13' 6" x 13' 6" Shade Pavilion so it would be just under the Permit Required size for San Diego which is less then 300 square feet of Roof Area and not taller then 12'. 6x8" Posts, 4x8" Beams, 2x6"Rafters and 2x4 Lattice all western red cedar.

I call this a Fan Arbor, and isn't it a unique structure? It's in Old Town San Diego and sits at back corner of a triangular lot, designed by the architect James A. Johnson who works out of the Del Mar area. It is 24 feet wide and 25 feet deep, and 11'10" at the highest point.

This Koi Pond Deck cantilevers 3' out over water giving the koi a shady place to hang out. Free - form lines enhance the Design, and a stair stepped 'bridge' takes you over the water and on to this koi pond deck.

The Design Issues here were pretty simple, to expand their outdoor living space, and take advantage of a nice Southerly view across San Diego.
Deck and Shade Cover
This Point Loma Deck Design is just blocks from San Diego Harbor. The decking is 1x6 Ipe, screwed down and plugged. The railing posts are tight grained old growth western red cedar, while the railing top cap is 5/4 Ipe.

This beautiful Deck in La Jolla sits up a very steep slope and has given the owners a nice ocean view. The decking and top cap on railing is red balau AKA mangaris.

My Design Build Projects
A beautiful Japanese style Low Fence Railing in San Diego, around a Zen Garden, built using clear, vertical grain kiln dried western red cedar. Copper post wraps stop rot at grade level. Also an Ipe, cedar and Bamboo Asian privacy screen screening neighbors driveway.
