Loft Kitchen Remodel
This was half of a 2 part project (see Live / Work Office Design). As a Mother of growing tween girls who also likes to entertain and host school events, I wanted to change my kitchen configuration to a more open plan.
I decided to reconfigure my kitchen area to create a seamless unobstructed flow from kitchen to living room area. I learned from the years that people migrate to a kitchen island since the kitchen is the heart and energy of a home, and so I wanted to design a 15 foot island that would be welcoming to my guests and also with enough table top space for my two daughters to enjoy being creative chefs.
I fabricated the island using two different materials, a natural stone that matched the fireplace and also walnut wood to match the custom daybeds at the front windows. I discovered a 100% recycled and natural material called Neolith that I used for my stone countertops and backsplash and worked with the same fabricator that made the custom daybeds on the dining portion of the island.
I added similar color accents for the dining chairs to pick up the red framed front windows and vibrant fabrics of the custom day bed cushions underneath.
Project: 6 months
Start Date: August 1, 2017
End Date: January 20, 2018
Custom Designs: Custom 15' Island, Custom Walnut shelves
