Mad River Barn

MAD RIVER BARN (Inn, Restaurant, Pub) An Inn…spiration in remodeling, recycling and reuse! Interior design and DIY projects by Joanne Palmisano, author of Salvage Secrets Design & Décor and Salvage Secrets, Transforming Reclaimed Material (W.W.Norton).

Mad River Barn was in need of serious repair. Heather and Andrew (the new owners). With restoring in mind–and to keep the heritage and history of the place alive–Joanne created design concepts that encompassed the repurposing of material presented from the building during the construction/renovation phase. The reclaimed barn wood, furnishings, 18th century hand-hewn beams, copper piping, galvanized pipes gathered from the woods and much more. This budget-friendly interior design embraced top of the line bedding, mattresses and other fixtures, including custom made pieces out of reclaimed materials for the platform beds, headboard, vanity and more. From FLOR recycled carpet tile to barn door sliders, industrial style light fixtures, turkey feeders made into bathroom lights, old doors turned into a lobby desk, old ladders into light fixtures...the inn, restaurant, pub and the homeowner's farmhouse (attached to the building) is filled with design that can't be missed.

The response since opening day, has been nothing short of outstanding…gasps, ooohs, aaahs and hundreds of people stopping by since opening day. For Andrew and Heather, it has been nothing but surreal, and they are busier than ever. The Inn previously known only for winter lodging is now busy year-round with locals and tourists who all love the comfortable ambience. Guests are now lining up before they check out to book their rooms for the following year. Filled with laughter, great food and an amazing styling, it is hard to believe that this busy Inn was once on the verge of being past repair.
