Mid Century home

This Mid Century home was all very hard surfaces when i first viewed it. Tall 14 feet windows all on the front of the home with sky lights lighting the rest of the home. Concrete floors and hard flat walls. I started in the kitchen totally remodeling from the existing. I used high gloss laminate cabinets and took end panels using them horizontally to gain height and reflection from the adjacent window. Black granite and backsplash give a good reflective nature. As the ceilings were so high lighting was an issue, so i ran arm lights on the top of the upper cabinets, rope lighting along the base cabinets which is reflected well on the polished stained concrete floors. The aluminum appliance garage door gives extra storage and looks great too with all of our polished surfaces.
The client had a lot of sculptures from both Asia and Africa. Working with these we introduced mid century classics as well as designer pieces from the 21st Century.
The living room looks through to a large glass window to the indoor pool, lit with sky lights. I used a very large sectional sofa with mid century chairs, keeping the coffee table glass again gives some visual reflection. The art pieces and sculptures were lit by museum grade lighting which is hidden in key places. The chandelier in the corner of the room weighed over 400 pounds and had to be braced within the ceiling but the look of the glass C's all hooked onto one another gives a waterfall effect, throwing the eye into the pool area.
