After various modern interventions and remodels to this house the kitchen required a serious upgrade in space planning and style. The result was a mid-Century inspired design in keeping with the previous remodeling and addressed the functional and aesthetic issues. A relatively small kitchen, it required careful planning to increase storage, accommodate a large family at mealtimes as well as a hangout space and remain bright and spacious. After much consultation with the client and the initial design concept submitted it was decided to make a 2ft bump out to the exterior wall to allowed for a more inclusive space plan as well as the opportunity to design one full-height picture window that allows maximum light enhancing the sense of space by the custom walnut banquette. A walnut screen was added to create sense of "nook" while allowing light to penetrate the space.
Two-toned cabinetry gives the space texture and connects to the walnut of the banquette while a raised peninsula with end storage and docking space was designed to lighten the effect of the projection in to the space. The wall opposite was made as minimal as possible with color matching built-in appliances and integrated refrigerator, a multiple storage wall that includes a concealed pantry with counter where bulkier counter top appliances can be used in situ and concealed after use to maintain the clean lines of the kitchen and let the pops of bright color glow.
