MID-CENTURY MAKEOVER

Residential Reno

This mid-century ranch, like most, lacked a functional layout for a modern lifestyle... So, we fixed it! The original rooms were small and divided from one another and needed natural light, practical storage, and better work space. The client wanted the Kitchen to serve as the heart of the home so we removed the walls that separated the Kitchen from the rest of the home, re-configured the existing windows as well as added a new picture window, all in effort to create an anchor point for the family to gather around. The large island boats ample over-sized drawers that serve as the new pantry storage as well as a raised bar integrated into the far end to encourage connection, while defining clear work space from social space. Beyond function were style concerns. How could we adapt this massive element into a cozy family home? Premium materials in subtle ways. The mix of Quartz and Zebra Wood paired with brass accents and glass tile give this space breath and interest while maintaining a sense of subtlety. It's as if it were always meant to be.
