Modern Chef's Kitchen Addition

ARDA Award Winner, Featured in Pittsburgh Post Gazette

This kitchen addition was designed for a couple who enjoy cooking together and hosting. Their original kitchen was small, lacked storage, and made it difficult for multiple people to use the space at once.

The new rear addition was designed to integrate with the home while improving flow and connection to the outdoors. A covered lanai replaced the existing deck, with new doors linking both the kitchen and living room to the patio. Interior circulation was improved by widening and opening the hallway between the kitchen and dining room.

Custom cabinetry was designed to maximize storage while working around large windows overlooking the wooded backyard. The layout includes integrated ovens, a large island with prep sink, a built-in banquette, a dedicated wine and snack area, and a walk-in pantry to keep the space organized and uncluttered.

Material selections were personal and intentional, including hickory chosen by the clients for exposed beams and floating shelves, adding warmth and character to the space.

The result is a functional, light-filled kitchen that supports cooking, gathering, and everyday living.
