We undertook this renovation of a mid-century split-entry house for a couple who were downsizing from a stately 7,000 square foot traditional estate to this 2,700 square foot property. The goal: to create a home of sophisticated simplicity and long-term utility. Instead of single-assignment rooms, living areas were fluid and flexible enough to enable single-level living if circumstances required. Exceptional materials ranging from Mozambique wood paneling to specialty textural finishes expressed the clients’ desire for visual strength and refined quietude. And throughout the house, space was optimized to maximize storage without compromising the home’s uncluttered geometry.
