We were able to salvage tiles from other areas and rebuild major portions of the skirting. We ground the whole porch flat and smooth. We then sealed and enhanced the deep rich color of the border insets.

We didn't have enough tiles to restore this step so we elected to remove it completely. The main field has 1/4 inch height differences between tiles called lippage.

This porch was in the worst condition of the three front porches. There were only 6 or 7 tiles around the skirting so we used those 6 or 7 tiles to rebuild the areas in need on the other two porches.

We found extra large format tiles used on another area of the house and built the skirting with those. They were of a different breed but the contrast on tones worked perfectly. We also had to grind flat and smooth the porch and seal and enhance the inset border tiles.

In addition to the skirting tiles being loose or missing you can also clearly see cracks in the field tiles that had to be repaired.
