I performed a site visit, conducted a detailed project take-off, and estimated costs to offer an expert second opinion on a landscaping project.

I discovered that the landscape estimate presented to my client is approximately 21% (or $38,875.59) higher than what the work should reasonably cost.

This does not necessarily imply that the contractor is being dishonest. Sometimes, elevated pricing can reflect overhead, profit objectives, or contingencies that may
have not been clearly communicated. I think my client is being overcharged for this project based on my experience and the scope of work.

My role here was to provide an expert second opinion, enabling my client to make a well-informed decision.

Recommendations:

Request a clear breakdown of pricing from the landscape contractor.
Discuss with the landscape contractor the discrepancies between my estimate and their quote.
Ensure there is 3" or more of chocolate loam spread before installing the turfgrass sod.
Use this information to negotiate a fairer contract price.
Be aware of unaccounted details and costs that could lead to change orders. Ask the contractor to confirm that the rough grading and fine grading of the native
seed area is included
Add the connection of gutter downspouts to SDR pipe, ensuring it is buried away from the house foundation.

Ultimately, my goal is to ensure my client receives the quality landscape desired at a fair and appropriate cost.
