New Transitional Craftsman

Working with one of our favorite developers, Rich Sargent, we provided all the interior architectural detailing, color and finish selection inside and out, kitchen and bath design and lighting for this new home on the San Francisco peninsula. The home is in the craftsman tradition but is updated with clean lines, flat trims and tailored detailing.

The back of the house has beautiful roof lines, with a dormer for the kitchen nook looking out to the garden. We did all the color work for the home and selected all the finishes including he stone veneer on the base of the columns.

I love the shaped concrete tiles in the front entry to the home. The grout makes it non-slip and the look is timeless.

We used stone basktetweave tile on the family room fireplace surround and in other areas throughout the home.

The photo gives the front door deep perspective. We painted the door an earthy gold, surrounded it with a darker gold and pin striped it in green. A large brass knocker and dark bronze handle complete the look.

The facade of this updated craftsman is strong and inviting. We used classic, earthy craftsman colors on the shingles and trim. The fancy shingles at the peak of the dormer, over-sized corbels and generous trims are traditional details with an updated demeanor.

We used stone mosaic tiles on the backsplash and basketweave stone behind the range in the kitchen. We angled the range to face out into the family room and showcase the antiqued plaster stove hood. We designed a deep crown for the upper cabinets and used bronze handles as an earthy detail. The...

We hung a large lantern over the island and augmented the light with recessed LED fixtures. Counter seating faces the sink and stove.

The back dormer for the kitchen nook is particularly lovely and inviting. We love the fancy shingle work and over-sized trims.

We used a dramatic stone basketweave with black accents on the floor of the powder room and repeated the black stone on the vanity counter. We painted the ceiling black for added drama and used a strong brown on the walls.

We used a wainscot downstairs and in the upstairs hall to the bedrooms. Door and window casings are wide and flat. Colors are all soft but warm.
