Noblesville, IN Modern Kitchen Update

These homeowners in the Harbour Overlook community of Noblesville continue to improve their home to update it for their modern style. Their kitchen was the next, and one of the most important, space to improve both function and modern aesthetics.

Before
The original kitchen was closed off to the living room and dining room, which we see so very often. Another dated aesthetic we see frequently is a large pesky bulkhead over a small island that dwarfs the visual size of the kitchen.

To create better function and openness for the family, the design goal was to create an open concept with modern aesthetics, and a kitchen cabinet design to trick the eye into visually elevating the ceiling height.

The traditional honey oak cabinets were replaced with simple, sleek cabinets . One of the unique elements about this kitchen is that the design purposefully does not have any upper wall cabinets on the main elevations.

The finishing design details included simple, straight-lined hardware and modern gray tile behind the stainless steel appliance hood to create a subtle accent wall.

The lack of storage was made up in other areas such as a larger eat-in island, a cabinet above the separate refrigerator, and tall pantry storage tucked around the corner.

The custom bar seating that faces the windows out to the beautiful yard is a perfect way to add additional seating with minimal impact.

The most impactful change was removing the wall between the kitchen and living and dining area. This allows for both visual and audible communication from space to space.
