Nova House

Nova House is built into the hillside overlooking a spectacular limited-access red rock canyon in Moab, Utah, enabling residents to savor the incredible setting, provide limited visibility from the road and integrate the 8,700 square foot plus home with the environment. Native materials and colors were used throughout with every room, corridor, entry and courtyard providing an interaction with the outdoors with views and materials. Sustainability goals are addressed with solar panels, recycled and local materials, solar orientation and design elements to provide shading from intense sun. Proper solar orientation & the use of sunshades minimize impact from the sun during the summer season.
Architect Denis Henmi selected copper as the choice for the structure’s roof, noting the color of new copper and the color copper turns as it ages and is exposed to the environment, are perfect to accentuate the other materials of the house and the multitude of browns and rust reds of the surrounding mountains in Utah. Nearly 5,000 square feet of Englert Series 1300 copper standing seam was chosen to complete the project.
The six-bedroom home has a hot tub, sauna, home theater, stone countertops and a temperature-controlled wine cellar and tasting room, climate controlled by 11 separate zone radiant heat and HVAC system. The home is tucked into the rocks in such a way that the rocks are actually a part of the home itself.
