Old World Turret
Turrets are extremely unnatural for flat square edged materials. A covering material, roofing material in our case, needs to follow a circular pattern which is also getting tighter at the top of the turret. And the surface is curved verses flat, as well as getting sharper at the top . We did try to convince the owner into using copper standing seam which is mechanically more adaptable to the turret shape. But he did insist on slate as the final roof covering, as it was his dream.
We settled on a German style referred to as Einfach Schuppenschablonendach. 165 man hours later the turret was finished.
The neighbors, the entire neighborhood, the dog walkers, the twin girls, the bicyclers and the car gawkers anxiously awaited the final results. The owner says that on weekends he should have charged money, as so many cars stopped to look and take pictures.
