On Set
A friend of mine came to me with a dilemma on a cooking show she was working on...the set kitchen! Although the cabinets and countertops were pretty nondescript and simple the backsplash was a mash up of half inch colored tiles at random. It made you dizzy through the camera lens. With almost no time before production started I find the BEST solution: DEMO THAT UGLY TILE AND PAINT WITH CLASSIC CHALKBOARD PAINT. DRAW SHAPES ON THE BACKSPLASH OR INCORPORATE INTO SHOW. They obviously took my advice and incorporated it into the show. A chalk drawn logo is the centerpiece while ingredients and tips of the shows recipe adorn the rest. The greenish black color of the good ole chalkboard paint blends perfectly with the granite countertop and crisp black chef coats. Now this set kitchen is as lively as its host, Joe Gatto, and crew!
