Outdoor Entertaining in Small Backyard
Many subdivisions are built on smaller sized lots leaving limited room to squeeze in many use areas. Here is a 20 foot deep backyard where we arranged a new bbq island, masonry fireplace, synthetic lawn and seating. We had nothing to deal with other than an existing above ground spa. Part of the challenge was to deal with a powerpole and a 5 foot Public Utility Easement setback. A 30 foot tall powerpole is hard to screen especially when its so close inside a backyard. We are using bamboo that will at least screen the lower portion.
We also situated the bbq island to serve as a screen as well since their are utility boxes behind the island which are now screened from most of the entertaining areas.
The fireplace was placed to be seen from the indoors with an extended hearth to act as a seatwall.
The bbq island has a cantilevered bar seating area, maximizing its efficiency as a cooking area as well as entertainment/seating.
The spa, bbq island and fireplace all work together to form a cozy area for entertaining where everyone is in close proximity.
