After a few renovation projects to their residence in the Outerlands of San Francisco, our clients were ready to create a complementary space out of their unusable backyard. The goal was simply a place to unwind, take in the views and let the dog out to run. An elevated cedar deck transitions from back door to the main garden level while preserving views above the fenceline. Sectional seating surrounds a custom concrete firepit to warm chilly nights. Stepping pads lead to a covered dining area supporting a flowering Hardenbergia vine for shade, and cafe lights for ambiance. A water saving native meadow provides space for their dog to play, while native coastal shrubs provide habitat alongside bright succulents, bringing in a colorful Mediterranean feel.
