The clients had a lot with prime views facing Will Rogers State Park, but wanted to transform the existing one story house because it was lacking space, light and potential views. Aside from adding a second story bedroom wing, the clients wanted a great room to house their contemporary artwork and a baby grand piano. Smooth stucco, redwood siding, cherry wood, birch, limestone, cedar, bead-blasted and rusted steel, among other materials, were combined to form a rich palette of textures and colours that serve to define the forms of this light filled ‘modern barn’. Additionally, a new entry sequence allows visibility through the entire house toward the park view right after stepping through the entry gate.
