This mid-century ranch house sited along a creek in west Austin was in need of light and volume. By adding a second story to the back half of the house and leaving the middle section as a double height living space, light was brought deep into the house and expanded the central volume vertically. The removal of interior walls and the use of a transparent stair system as a space divider gave a sense of horizontal expansion to the living space.
