The space was originally an outdoor porch. In the 70s and 80s it was enclosed to create a powder room and small bedroom/office. Ultimately, it was stripped to the studs and remodeled. The space was redesigned to be more efficient and aesthetically pleasing, including a heated floor since it was built over the old porch slab.
