Ramsgate Victorian Eclectic Home

PROJECT OVERVIEW

This Victorian home was characterised by a series of small, dark rooms that limited natural light and restricted the flow between spaces. The brief was to create a brighter, more functional family home centred around a generous kitchen and breakfast area with a stronger connection to the garden.

By reconfiguring the existing layout and introducing an extension, we transformed the ground floor into a light-filled living space that feels open, welcoming and better suited to modern family life. Alongside the architectural changes, the interior scheme was carefully developed around the client’s extensive collection of artwork, travel memorabilia and treasured possessions. Rather than starting from scratch, the design focused on celebrating these pieces and creating a cohesive backdrop that allowed them to shine throughout the home.

HOW WE HELPED:

Our role included:

* Establishing a clear style and design direction at the outset of the project.
* Reconfiguring the existing layout and advising on the introduction of an extension to improve natural light, flow and access to the garden.
* Designing a kitchen layout that maximised functionality, storage and day-to-day usability.
* Selecting finishes and materials that reflected the client’s personality while creating a cohesive overall scheme.
* Replanning the upper floors to create a more balanced arrangement of four bedrooms and two bathrooms.
* Integrating existing furniture, lighting, artwork and travel collections into the new design.
* Producing detailed design drawings and schedules to support construction and implementation.

THE RESULT

The completed home is bright, practical and full of personality. The new kitchen and breakfast area forms the heart of the house, flowing seamlessly into the garden through large corner bifold doors that blur the boundary between indoor and outdoor living.

Throughout the rest of the property, carefully considered colours, furnishings and layouts provide the perfect backdrop for the client’s eclectic collection of artwork, travel treasures and collected objects. The result is a home that feels layered, individual and deeply personal, while still maintaining a strong sense of cohesion and balance.
