This older family room was ready for a makeover. The homeowner felt the room was dark without much natural light. Also the heavy brick fireplace and the built in cabinet added to the dark feel. In order to transform this room in to a cozy, light and bright space the majority of the brick, the built in cabinet and the angled wall behind the television were removed. New windows were added to either side of the fireplace to bring in much needed natural light. The fireplace design included beautiful white paneling with new build-ins including storage. The television was mounted in the build-in on a pivoting holder allowing it to be positioned for the best viewing experience. Some of the fireplace brick remained to keep texture and was painted white to match the paneling. The fireplace hearth was updated with white paneling on the front and topped with a sturdy limestone slab. Once the new furniture was in place, this room became the comfy, cozy retreat the homeowner was hoping for.
