Retaining Walls

Retaining walls are a great way to landscape sloping properties as well as creating outdoor gathering spots. Retaining walls can be combined with other landscape elements such as rock gardens, fire pits, lighting, and more. Here are some of the projects we've done in the Minneapolis area.
A half-circle stone retaining wall installed on a sloping hill gave us a spot to install a brick patio with fire pit. We also added low-voltage lighting to the wall to light it up for evenings when the fire isn't used. Bark mulch keeps the weeds down and makes this a low-maintenance yard.

Adding a retaining wall to this small front yard means the homeowner's mowing chores are a lot easier - no slope to deal with. Plus the curved walls invite guests up. Bark mulch means the gardens are weed-free, and low-voltage outdoor lighting makes it safer at night, as well as attractive.

Properties with irregular terrain and hills are sometimes a challenge, but here a series of stone retaining walls and steps was used to create several levels to plant shrubs, small trees, and foliage plants.
Retaining Walls Create Levels of Gardens
Retaining walls topped with lanterns flank the steps up to this brick and stone home. Stone colors were chosen to complement the existing brick and stone on the home and garage. Large boulders placed around the driveway at the edge of the lawn add to the overall feel of the design.
